Demobilization Kit for Manpower and Reserve Affairs

Challenge

Several thousand Marines demobilize every year from active duty status back to Reserve status without the benefit of Congressionally-mandated career transition services. To ensure compliance with federal laws and to support the ethos of “taking care of our own,” the Marine Corps required an innovative approach to reaching Reserve Marines and family members as they demobilize and reintegrate into civilian life and the workforce.

Solution

The Bowen Group provided in-depth programmatic expertise in the areas of Transition Assistance, Career Development, and Civilian Reintegration, and provided functional expertise in the area of Learning and Development, to include Instructional Systems Design, curriculum development, multi-media, and interactive eLearning. After conducting a focus group and online survey, The Bowen Group designed and developed a custom Demobilization Kit with the original brand theme Put Your Corps Values to Work. Embedded within the kit included Headquarters and local marketing information, and a multi-media interactive Career Change Guide CD specifically designed to meet the unique needs and concerns of demobilizing Reserve Marines and family members as they return to civilian life and the workforce. The Bowen Group project team developed the products to support Reserve demobilization sites and Transition Assistance Management Program (TAMP) offices Marine Corps-wide, reflecting best practices in instructional media and utilizing TAMP instructor-led curriculum (developed under previous contract by The Bowen Group). Interactive programming included audio and video streaming, and interactive assessments and exercises that encompassed key subject areas such as job seeker resources, veteran resources, family resources, as well as financial and medical information.

Result

The Bowen Group managed the development and distribution of 10,000 Demobilization Kits and 40,000 multi-media interactive Put Your Corps Values to Work, Career Change Guide CDs to 23 Reserve and deployment destinations. Post-delivery online survey indicated 100% satisfaction with the product and with The Bowen Group. This effort assisted the TAMP in fulfilling their mission to positively impact individual lifestyles, enhance personal readiness, speed attainment of career milestones for Marines and family members throughout the career lifecycle, and return ambassadors to the civilian community.
